A Message from The Director
My name is Jackie Leon-Vasquez. I was born in Newport News, Virginia (Air Force Brat) and moved to Tucson When I was a year old. We than lived in California, Where my dad died when I was 4. I spent my elementary and junior high school years in Anaheim. When I was five, my mom got me into hula dancing. My mom and I used to do mother/daughter routines at the Disneyland Hotel. That was the start of a lifelong passion and my professional dance career. We moved to Safford, Arizona prior to my freshman year of high school. While in high school I worked after school teaching dance and worked at First United Church as an infant and toddler teacher. I also toured as a Hula dancer with Ernie Menehune Group. My family move to Tucson soon after high school and I began working at Outer Limits as a preschool teacher. I moved to San Diego in 1991, Where my first son was born. In San Diego I was a site director for the YWCA preschool program and a YMCA afterschool program. In 1997 I moved back to Tucson with my son and my husband and I divorced. I have worked at Outer Limits since my return. In 2002 I married my husband, Roger. He had five children at the time and we added a set of twins girls in 2003. I am currently the director of Old Spanish Trail. My Family and I live in Vail, but the commute is worth it as we have a lot of animals.
My mom was a preschool teacher and this is how I got my start with working with children. I like children and I like the excitement surrounding learning. The expressions on their faces when they learn something new makes the work worthwhile. I feel like I am teaching them something and that they learn from and because of me.
